Riots

Saw some thing on channel 4 about the riots, between adverts.
This is what dripped from the dusty grey cells.....

Young (minded) people looking for excitement can play aggressive "tag" with the Police while at the same time daring each other to deeds, within their peer group, seen as "worthy of respect".
There is a danger of reading too much into the root cause, for many there is no cause just the rush.
Retrospective attribution to one interest group or another may be a desire to safely box this issue so that existing responses can be applied, or for those with "axes to grind" to hijack the spectacle as aligned with their particular interest.

I wasn't there, I'm old but I can still imagine the mix of blue lights, flames and testosterone, that is not a platform for considered debate of justice within society.

There are problems, we want stuff that's on the telly, news of the riots was for me sandwiched between adverts for short term high interest loans.
Our society is running on debt, the idea that we "get to have" what we are "yet to earn".

Avarice and personal greed abound but as our pensions rely on "continued growth" it take a higher level of morality to risk disrupting the model. Today you probably won't be invited to reflect on your own moral integrity but you will be invited to check your credit rating.

It's broke (the model) change has to happen as the torch of consumerism is handed on to another continent, another world and we are forced to cut our cloth to a suit our real worth. Somebody in India or China can do what you do and cheaper, why should some youf here with limited skills enjoy the trappings of a skilled person in the next "first world".

Change is coming and its not going to be nice for the median. We can continue with the broken model or we can try to recognise good human values aren't on the shopping channel, if you are torching the place because your unrecognised worth is only recognised in designer foot-ware you are caught up in the system and part of the problem.
The next generation will only move on, if they move out of the consumerist model before it collapses
